Document Summary

Ecological selection-prefer traits which help animal survive. Different selections may act on an animal at same time which may favor the same traits. Genetic drift- due to chance, the population experiences an allele frequency change. Over time, allele frequencies drift up and down over time. Notice: in genotype column, there are 6 ah and 4 at. Genetic drift effects are greater in small populations. Over time, one allele will drift up or down. Drift can be important in large population given enough time. Effects are most obvious in small populations. May lead to loss or gain of allele. Any event or process involving sampling error can cause genetic drift. Founder event- when a group starts a new population in a new area. Allele frequencies are likely different in new population, more obvious in small populations. Founder event occurs-->high chance of founder effect: genetic drift cause change in allele frequency. Population bottleneck -->genetic bottleneck(sudden reduction of alleles in population)
