Document Summary

Thick mucous: cftr protein helps clear the mucous(located in chromosomes 7, mutations in cftr block the cftr protein function. 2 copies of a gene separate when an individual makes gametes. Each gamete receives only 1 copy: mendel"s 2nd law. Alleles form of different genes assort independently during gamete formation: chromosomes do segregate independently. Law does not always apply to genes on the same chromosome. Some things are more complex then just completely dominant or recessive. There may be more than two alleles of a gene that affect these. Semi-conservative replication-each parental strand serves as a template for a new strand. This is how dna replication occurs to create a second double-helix. Conservative replication-show that intact parental dna serves as a template. Expression of the coded information as the phenotype. Results of mutations: mutations with no phenotype are neutral mutations, most mutations are deleterious(bad) Cripple protein so it fails to function properly.
