Loss of control- no longer in control of consuming. Engage in behaviors that allow consumption of drugs. Many costs - loss of friends, family, etc. Dependence - need for increased amounts to achieve high - as you consume, you require more and more to get high. The high one gets continues to get lower and lower. Ex. one cup - won"t get the same high as before. Lots of homeostatiss in system - can become tolerant fast. Drugs establish icnredibly strong memories, linked to feelings that drug causes. Speed that drug causes euphoria is due to effect the drug has on the brain. More drugs in the system - ex. snorting gets fast into brain. Brain has expectancy - drug symptoms might occur right as one visualizes taking the drug.
