CLASSIC 45A Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Clotho
Document Summary
To offer prometheus help because he is zeus"s friend and wants to mediate. Oceanenous entrance shows that even though they are both titans, he is a friend of zeus because he helped him (positive reciprocity). He wants to get prometheus to free him. Prometheus also helped zeus but he is binding him to rock and torturing him (negative reciprocity). Tells us zeus is unfair, or if there is a kind of justice, it"s not obvious. Oceanus and prometheus are both titans, when prometheus tells oceanus not to and warns him he says ok and doesn"t help. Oceanus wants prometheus to forget about his ideals and try to free himself. He keeps saying that the fates are above zeus because they control what will actually happen. Fates are clotho (spinner), lachesis (allotter), and atropos (unturnable) Io shows up as a cow in play. When you use passive voice, someone else is agent, and you are the recipient/victim.
