Only the first trial was free from interference*- did(cid:374)"t see(cid:373) to effect the(cid:373) as (cid:373)uch as i(cid:374) the later trials. Data showed no effect of rehearsal-prevention interval on memory for first sequence subjects were shown. Subjects have trouble discriminating between the current sequence and the earlier sequences. Showed that there seemed to be interference with target items. Rapid decline in short term memory for murdock traced by decay. Typical results people do well on first sequence then do worse until there"s a (cid:272)ha(cid:374)ge i(cid:374) category. Changing categories lets you avoid confusing earlier words with current sequence. Proactive interference- interference in recall caused by previous exposure to some material. Interferes with something you need to recall recently (forward acting interference)
