Document Summary

Process by which physical energy from the environment is detected by sense receptors and then encoded as neural signals. Process by which we organize and interpret the sensory information, allowing us to give meaning to objects and events. The study of relationships between the physical characteristics of stimuli and our psychological experience of them. I. e. wavelength of light, amplitude of a sound wave and how they relate to our psychological experience. The minimum amount of stimulus energy required to detect a particular stimulus. Take subject; test absolute threshold for a particular light stimulus. Sit subject in darkened room and over the course of 20 minutes, we will show them different intensities of that light. Have them respond to whether they see that light or not. Figure out the lowest intensity of the light that the subject can see. The minimum difference between two stimuli necessary for a subject to perceive them as different.
