CRM/LAW C115 Lecture 9: Week 5 Reflection
Document Summary
Race and ethnicity have been used as social categories for decades, and it"s constantly changing based off history. Our society is getting increasingly diverse, it"s hard to believe it can stay the same for so long. The main differences in race and ethnicity is that race just describes the physical attributes of a person, while ethnicity describes the cultural identity of a person. Even though people are of same ethnicity, they can have different races. In history, having the same ethnicity and race was the norm. Nowadays almost every child comes from two or more races and even ethnicities. These terms are socially constructed, meaning they"re changing over time based on the opinions of the public. A lot of race categories that used to exist no longer do, for example, european immigrants were called non-white immigrants or mediterranean , which is now more used in the general white race category.
