Hotaling, and richard gelles, as summarized recently in: Intimate violence and abuse in families (4th edition). Those interpretations guide our answers and actions to questions like: People living in any social group strive to live their lives according to their own personal agendas that inevitably differ. Individual and collective interests are often incompatible, with the realization of one impinging on the realization of another. Strategies and actions carries out in response to conflicts of interest. These are the means use by people in an attempt to advance their own interests in the context of competing or divergent interests. Feelings of dislike, antipathy, or anger resulting from unresolved or repressed conflicts of interest.
