Unique factors in abuse cases victims may be close to their perpetrators. Myth: a majority of perpetrators use force with their victims: majority of perpetrators may use desensitizing tactics. Problem: false positives lead researchers in the suggestibility field since 1970s have focused on false positives. State v. buckey (1990: mcmartin preschool case. 380 out of 400 kids claimed to be abused longest trial in ca history 7 years acquitted on all charges. Problem: false negatives not protecting children from abuse who truly are being abused or others who may be abused by a guilty man who is not convicted. 5 and 7- year old girls participated in a pediatric examination.
