Need to recognize that what they did was wrong & they need to use their tools. Some had to come to group treatment multiple times. One client describes how he was abused as a child & how that is connected to him having to come back. Advised to not minimize the violence that they engage in. Men learning to understand how to support & have faith in their partner even if they do not agree with them. One third of those who go through program will reoffend & likely with same victim. Tension between being nurturing & caring while also being masculine. Guest lecturer: david welch on batterer treatment in oc. *any offender is required to do the batterer intervention program. Dispel myths at the beginning, not just physical. > in ca, victims cannot be mandated into treatment (can be revictimizing) Batterers get to comment on each other"s situation & offer their own guidance.
