The objective of this lab is to understand the exchange of carbon between the atmosphere, surface ocean and deep ocean. After this lab we should understand how increasing atmospheric co 2 can cause a decrease in ocean ph, therefore becoming more acidic and harmful to ocean ecosystems. We should understand how a change in co 2 concentration can have an affect on ph. We should also know that ph will take a long time to reach steady state after stopping carbon emissions due to the residence time of carbon in the deep ocean. Atmos_c(t) = atmos_c(t - dt) + (external + ocean2atmos - atmos2ocean) * dt. Deep_ocean_c(t) = deep_ocean_c(t - dt) + (biopump + downwell - upwell - burial) * dt.
