Lecture 13: resisting military rule: the madres de la plaza de mayo. By the 1980s the government was very dedicated to getting rid of communism. By the mid 60s peron is in spain in exile and then there are hard lined peronists (right), there were the soft peronists wanted to mobilize workers and get the military power out. Argentina"s military tended to lump all of these groups together (cid:0) allied with argentina"s banned army only armed struggle and socialism could achieve a better society targeted the left and extreme left (cid:0) lead to the dirty war. Most of their leadership is killed and or disappeared. Many high school campuses there was massive amounts of repression of people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time. There were activists who were also disappeared in large numbers. The junta defined the enemy within as not only as people who had opposed to the government but also people with dangerous ideology.
