Lecture 24- grenada: very small and not much economic prosperity, it had a social revolution from 1979 to 1983. Grenada is important because it was the first english speaking country to undergo a social revolution. It"s also a great example of an lennist style revolution (good example of not a popular revolution but a leadership style) It resulted in the first us invasion launched to overthrow a revolution. Promised to liberate people from dictatorship, it promised to remove foreign influence. Eric gairy was the son plantation forman and became a trade union organizer (organize trade workers on the island) Gary became a hero to peasants and workers (stand up to elite) He would become the chief minister for grenada in 1967 he would become premier on island. Gairy would use a system of patronage hand out things to his followers (not getting support because of person but because of him giving things out)
