Western anti-jewish sentiment (anti-semitism) begins with christianity in the first century, since christianity emerged from judaism and claimed that jesus was the long-awaited messiah, which jews denied. Having denied jesus as messiah, the jews were a standing offense to the christians. Tuesday, i will give a century by century account of anti-jewish sentiment, up to the twenty- first century. Jews who reject jesus argue with jews who accept jesus as messiah. Jews who accept jesus are banished from synagogues. Earliest gospels (stories of jesus" life) depict jesus" enemies as a subset of jews called pharisees. " but a later gospel, the gos pel of john, depicts jesus" enemies as simply the jews" as if all jews are enemies. This will have ill effects for 2000 years.
