The dictatorships were reactions to the strict reforms that the countries had adopted such as agrarian reforms. Many armies take power in the name of stopping the spread of communism. Military dictatorships saw themselves as a joint alliance to fight international communism (aka international terrorism) Military leaders embraced a set of ideas known as latin american national security. Doctrine sovereignty of a nation lied in the requirements of a state"s survival. Doing all that was necessary to keep the state from collapsing, dissolving, breaking into civil war, or surrendering to another country.
