Document Summary

Day 18: isabeau of bavaria: traitor queen and the. Mother of isabella of valois who we learned about like last week. She didn"t have a lot of control for most of her life. Probably the most tragic example we"ll study in class did the best she could to work within the framework of queenship but those circumstances just weren"t going to work out. She wasn"t hated during her lifetime but her reputation gradually got worse and worse over time. She"s remembered as the queen who sold out her son by signing a treaty that basically made the king of england also the king of france. People would claim that she signed the treaty because charles wasn"t the son of the king but the son of the brother. But there"s no contemporary evidence showing that she had an affair. She"s from a family that wants to unseat the emperor not royal family.
