Genius arrives and gives him a counter argument. G: how long will man complain and blame god. Man is blind to the true meaning of truth. Truth is everywhere but man does not see it. Has heaven changed anything - nature still goes and happens god has not deranged the primitive and changed nature. God creates - nature - lawlike - immutable- basic goodness/ humans destroy --- free will. Freewill - good empires to exist -bad or evil empires to exist. Volney agrees with rousseau on many points but with exceptions: V thinks the reason is the thing that makes us human/ doesn"t believe in natural pity (compassion) Progress is real/ but has been insufficient.
