Media convergence: flow of content across multiple platforms; cooperation between multiple industries, migratory behavior of media audiences. Corporate convergence: concentration of media ownership in the hands of a small number of multinational conglomerates that have vested interested in flow of content across different platforms. Grassroots convergence: the increasingly central roles that digitally empowered consumers play in shaping the production, distribution, and reception of media content. Prosumption: blurring line within producer and consumer when it comes to media. As users, we are turned into commodities and then sold to advertisers (especially when signing the terms and conditions) Profit motive drives commodification of data and behaviors of users. Strategies for decommodification: advancement of opt-in online advertising, civil society surveillance of internet companies, establishment and support of alternative, nonprofit platforms.
