Led by ho chi minh who led for vietnamese nationalism, and surprisingly won and kicked out french. And the south was controlled by the us. The us was worried about the spread of communism in vietnam so they got involved. Involved as a proxy war between russia and us in the larger cold war. The theory that if one country falls to communism, then all the countries will become communist.
