We look at faces more than any other object in our entire life. Areas of brain devoted to face perception. Look at faces more than any other stimuli. Look at faces rather than scrambled faces. Born with certain circuits already in place that know what faces look like. Know what they look like & how to track them. Can look at eyes & can tell if they eyes are showing fear or not. Can also tell direct gaze v. averted (with fear) Already have really good knowledge of important social cues in the eyes. In particular look at eyes the most. Register emotions & can often read fairly accurately based on the face. *good at it because hundreds of millions of neurons & trillions of synapses doing this (seems effortless) Able to make all of these estimates instantaneously, automatically. Right & left side that are roughly mirror images of each other.
