Face processing slightly more lateralized in the right hemisphere. Can still recognize the face, but not the expression. Usually due to damage in the right hemisphere. Can look at situations like a detective (i see teeth, they must be smiling) Yes -> more controlled by motor area. Can express their own emotions but cannot read & respond to the expressions of others. Much of conversation is nonverbal facial expressions. Look at expressions, reading them, & responding with own facial expressions. If cannot read the facial expressions, you cannot necessarily respond as well. Makes for a delayed reaction -> can hurt social interaction. Cannot respond to someone smiling with a smile. Hard to analyze expressions when face is upside down -> best for upright faces. Shows women trying to take a man"s watch while distracting him. Not only listen to someone talking -> you look at their lips. What you hear is affected by what you are seeing someone"s mouth do.
