Information in ltm is organized in schemas (schemata) Things that expect to find or see with regards to a general concept. Schema -> mental representation or model of an object, event, or concept. Consists of a network of associated information. Individual pieces of info in schema sometimes called nodes . Information organized hierarchically from general concepts to details. Spreading activation -> how information in schemas becomes accessible to conscious awareness. Part of schema activated means that information is accessible to conscious thinking & memory. More closely related two pieces of information -> more likely that node is activated & that one near it is also activated.
