PSY BEH 150C Lecture Notes - Lecture 21: Systematic Review, Informed Consent
Document Summary
Assessment only/waitlist control - goal is to see if treatment is better than no. Treatment as usual - goal is to see if treatment is better than what is typically given to patients. Active control - goal is to see if your treatment does better than a placebo treatment, matching for time and attention. Other gold standard treatment - goal is to see if the treatment you"re testing is as good as what we already have. Observation and feedback (e. g. , audio, video, live) Blinding - not actually blind in clinical trials. Dropout - can"t necessarily get accurate picture if people dropping out for reasons related to trial. When you study a population whose characteristics resemble but don"t exactly match the target population. Ex. treatment for severe depression but don"t have access to those people, give treatment to people with mild depression. Statistical method of combining results of separate studies into single summary finding. Requires systematic review of the whole literature.
