Document Summary

Depth perception - judging our distance from (and the relative distance between) objects we sense. Binocular cues - require both eyes to receive the cue. Monocular cues - cues we can receive with only one eye (can still give the sensation of depth from covering on eye) Turning the eyes inward to focus on a nearby object. The closer it is, the more convergence of the eye to focus on that object. Oculomotor cue - based on the feelings that occur in the eye rather than the stimulus hitting the retina. Binocular depth cues - binocular disparity (retinal disparity) The difference in lateral separation between 2 objects. Left and right eye sees things differently (appears different) The closer it is, more retinal disparity occurs. Monocular depth cues - do not involve both eyes. Can be depicted in a 2-dimensional picture (one eye closed) Occlusion (overlap) - object is located between viewer and second object.
