PSY BEH 9 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: George Sperling, Echoic Memory, Iconic Memory
Document Summary
Memory - the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of the info. Encoding - process of turning experiences, perceptions, thoughts, or feelings into our brain (memory) Storage - where info is maintained in storage over time. Holding onto that info that is already encoded. Retrieval - make use of the info that is encoded and stored. Bring that stuff that we previously learned into a conscious awareness. Proposed about 50 years ago (og model has changed from today"s model) The model proposes there are 3 diff types of memory stores. 1) sensory memory - brief memory (very quick) Briefly register and hold onto a short amt of time. Holds info that we are currently thinking and processing. Can last very long (has the potential to be in our entire life) Changes to the model since the og model.
