Punishments in prison meant to be a deterrent but are often not. Punishment has to fit the standard of human decency. Cannot force mentally ill prisoners to take meds. Being under the influence does not excuse any crime committed. Consent is required, but consent cannot be given when under the influence. Probation = out of county jail = usually for misdemeanor or very low (cid:1) (cid:1) level felonies (cid:1) (cid:1) Formal = report at certain time; show proof that you"re actively enrolled in school or looking for a job; check in every week. Informal = do not report to the office; fill out a paper once a month and send to parole officer. When you are on parole, you lose all rights to privacy; parole officers do not need a search warrant. Sometimes you are required to wear an ankle bracelet to monitor you; make you pay for them (cid:1) (cid:1) variety of multiple meanings.
