Republican: instrumental individualism (thomas hobbes) -opposite of aristotle, humans are self creating. Kingdom is set up to protect us. benign=beneficial. Chosen leader knows all: the social system (adam smith)- we are not machines. can restrain selfishness. Wages will go down as workers increase. trial and error. virtue is generosity. Poverty and wealth will balance each other: a conflict model (karl marx)- hates capitalism, creates class conflict. Religion is used by the rich to avert attention of poor: a consensus theory (emile durkheim)- studies society as a whole and seeks social goals. individual is a product of society. Immorality is created bc society doenst approve. anomie= disconnect of group bc group rejects individual and he can"t conform.
