Think that they have first person authority & special kind of access to their own mental process. Think can understand the way we think by just looking. When human beings called on to introspect about how their beliefs are formed & what influenced them (as in many examples we discussed) -> generally take themselves to be introspecting & then reporting them. Nisbett & wilson -> no we can"t do that. When called upon to explain our beliefs -> we are simply theorizing about ourselves just like other people do. Challenge to first person authority about important features about our own mental processes. Way that they try to show that -> through looking at other experiments like the. People are guessing/speculating about themselves based on general beliefs about how people work. What"s a reasonable thing that would influence somebody? . Introspective reports about our own mental states are not accurate.
