Rationality works best when there is not a lot of emotions in the way of the thinking process. There will always be emotional influence in thinking and reasoning. Psychoanalysis says that, intellect is a feeble and dependent thing we are all compelled to behave cleverly or stupidly according to the command of our emotional attitudes. Brown said that freudian essence of man consists in desiring. Potential danger that strong emotion poses for reasoning. Even if the emotion is strong, there are still positive contributions as well. Self-awareness for psychoanalyst tradition involves observing ego ; as if the ego is looking at itself. This mechanism notices if cognitive and emotions are in harmony. Japanese mythology: samurai and the monk (ego and the id) Samurai demanded the monk explain heaven and hell, and monk called him a thug, good for nothing, go away. Done on purpose to make the samurai show emotion.
