SOC SCI H1G Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Healthy Narcissism, Sherston, Wiltshire, Selfishness
Document Summary
Idea back to the ancient greeks with their story of the young man named narcissus. He was very handsome and sought out by many who wanted to meet and have a relationship with him, but he refused everyone. His last pursuer was a nymph named echo; she is pursuing him, but she was being pursued by zeus. But his wife, hera, didn"t like it so she punishes echo by having echo always repeat the last words she hears. Echo, but he was prayed against and so he bent over a clear pool and fell in love with his own image; burned with love of his own self, but can"t reach it and also can"t leave it. Extreme narcissism is a failure to establish meaningful relationships with others. Everyone there to be used for our own selfish purposes. Wanted to include personality disorders in his treatment.
