Etruscans were in rome before the romans and had an influence on roman civilization. Hesiod (ca 700 bc) thought that they were descendants of the children of. Herodotus (ca 450 bc) thought that the etruscans came from lydia (current-day turkey) and moved to italy because of a famine. Not all greeks believed this, and believed that etruscans were native to the land. Recent studies proved that herodotus might be correct. Pyrgi tablet (pyrgi is a port of caere, a wealthy city in italy) showed the language of the etruscans. Supreme leaders in war, religion, and possibly justice trappings. Aspects of roman culture that have been derived from etruscans. The toga: semi-circle shaped cloth that was worn as clothing. Rods: enforcement of law, showed that they had the power to uphold law. Axe was removed when consuls were in city or when entering a sacred area. Acropolis is occupied, then temples were built surrounding the area.
