EDUC 378C Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Pinto Horse, Associate Professor, Pediatrics
Document Summary
As educator, we give our students factual information regarding good nutritional practices however, the food served at school is often high in fat and unhealthy. Of course these are offered on varying days, however fruit and salad are offered on a daily basis as an option for students. In my opinion i think that they try to serve healthy foods to our students, however some (such as those offered as manager"s choice) are high in saturated fats, are fried, and are high in fat and calories. Students take the fruit options offered, however many times that fruit ends up in the trash uneaten. One recommendation i would make is that healthy foods do not have to be unappealing to students. If the foods were more appealing students would be more likely to choose those options and actually eat them. Florida is considering eliminating the physical education requirement from middle schools in order to spend more time on core subject areas.
