Black nationalism and black power: malcolm x, the black panther party for self-defense. Left omaha nebraska after their house was burned down. Moved to lansing michigan but their house was eventually burned down there too. Malcolm"s father was killed by the klu klux klan. Malcolm told his 8th grade teacher that he wanted to be a lawyer when he grew up. His teacher replied: being a lawyer was not a (cid:522)realistic goal for a nigger(cid:523) malcolm dropped out of school afterward. Malcolm x sought to (cid:522)uplift the black man(cid:523) but he was accused of fighting white supremacy with (cid:522)black supremacy(cid:523) Rejected sexism insisting on absolute equality between men and women. Argued that a truly revolutionary society can exist only when women are liberated from male oppression. Changed his views on so-called (cid:522)white devils(cid:523) as inherently racist after his pilgrimage to mecca) By 1965 malcolm x was moving politically closer to martin luther king.
