Document Summary
This may be something you think you now understand or something that you still don"t understand after reading the book. The derivations of 2iasin(kx) doesn"t make sense, even though they said used the hyperbolic trig identities in both case (a=b and a=-b) The wave function and the derivative of the wave function must be continuous everywhere. The sign of e (positive or negative), will determine the favored curve toward the x-axis or away from the x-axis. If e is positive, it will show a concave up, or curving away from the x-axis. If e is negative, it will a show a concave down, or curving towards the x-axis. Does the spacing between consecutive allowed energy levels (delta e = e(n+1) - E(n) can be thought of as the energy of n quanta, and each quanta has an energy= hc = h-bar (omega), spaced from the ground state energy.
