SOC 002 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Proletariat, Bourgeoisie, Social Change
Document Summary
Such as durkheim, take on a macro structural perspective. Deviant acts reinforce appropriate behavior because we see others punished and it will make us think twice about making the same poor decision. Religious groups is a conflicting group because they want their own religion represented in the law. Some groups in power fall from that power ex. Marx says bourgeoisie have all the power and proletariat suffer from them. Proletariat didn"t get sick days and had no say in how many hours they work. Similarities between conflict theory and marxist theory: Some groups have power while others dont, creates an inequality. This model assumes that members of society largely agree on what is right or wrong. The law is the codification of these agree-upon social values. The law is a mechanism to settle disputes that rise when individuals stray too far from what the community considers acceptable.
