Document Summary

Each daughter cells receive exact copy of genome. Genome- the genetic material of an organism or virus. Chromosome structure helps organize large amount of dna. Somatic cells- all body cells except the reproductive cells. Gametes (egg & sperm) - 1 of each pair of chromosomes. Dna replication occurs before cell division, duplicates each chromosome. 2 sister chromatids- two copies of a duplicated chromosome attached to each other by proteins at the centromere and, sometimes, along the arms. S phase (synthesis) - replicating dna, duplication of chromosomes. G2 phase (second gap) - prep for division, growth. The division of the genetic material in the nucleus. Interphase- 90% of the cycle, period of the cell cycle when the cell is not dividing. Nuclear envelope fragments and the spindle microtubules attach. Spindle is complete and the chromosomes attach to microtubules at their kinetochores.
