Document Summary

Metals are in green - conductive and malleable. Nonmetals are in blue - a lot are gasses - there are also halogens - non conductive - not malleable. The pink diagonal row are the metalloids - like metals but not completely - semiconductors - not as brittle as nonmetals - in computers or computer chips - very valuable. Columns are groups in the periodic table - anything in a group will share similar chemistry. Liquid, solid, gas, plasma are the phases of water. Matter is divided between pure substances and mixtures. Pure substances can be comprised of pure substances - pure element. Pure substances can be comprised of pure substance - compound (single molecule) Mixtures can be either heterogeneous (isn"t uniform) or homogeneous (uniform throughout) Elements may combine in a variety of integer ratios to form multiple compounds, each with different properties. Molecular compounds (or covalently bonded compound) are all nonmetals bonded to each other.
