To say that a measure is valid, it"s measuring what we want it to measure. Cortisol is a hormone produced when experiencing negative emotions, ex) fear, anxiety. Social smiling: when you smile at a baby and they smile back. If parents are stressed and ght a lot, it re ects on the baby"s attitude- becomes fussier. Children apply consciousness to the world around them ex) a leaf jumped off a tree. Erikson: believes we have an instinctual tendency to form relationships with other. Trust v mistrust: children rely on other people to take care of them, helps children develop a sense of trust/mistrust depending on their parents" actions. Autonomy: starting at 2 yo, not as dependent on parents, start doing things for themselves. Temperament: tendency to act in a certain way. Easy: predictable schedules, calm, positive mood, readily adapt to new situations. Slow to warm up: dif cult at rst but will calm down eventually.
