Document Summary

Analog- measure variations in data through a continuous stream of information. Digital- measure variations in data at discreet intervals of sampled information. Binary- something is either on or off, 0s and 1s. Computer reads it and understands what to do. Sampling- process of converting a continuous stream into a discreet signal. Waveform- data expressed as continuously changing values in time. Analog leads to more accurate data, but there are noise limits. Digital can be replicated perfectly, but not totally accurate. Alu in motherboard- arithemetic logic unit, performs the operation. Control unit, schedules instructions, sends and receives from memory. Memory, sequence of numbered cells o o. Ram-random access memory- can read, change, write, delete. Input/output (io)-input encodes data, outputs decode data so users understand it. Bus- collection of wires, delivers information b/w parts of computer. Physical media: not necessarily tied to the computer (book) Digital media-something new, implies a type of storage: mp3, mov.
