The church was the center of all things in the middle ages. Bishop felipe in 1215 stated that the money for a new cathedral would come from god, and he was correct. Guillaume de sarnies was the chosen architect for notre dame de chartres. Cathedrals were shaped like crosses, with the pulpit at the front and lots of room in the nave for participants. The large (cid:449)i(cid:374)do(cid:449)s let i(cid:374) (cid:862)di(cid:448)i(cid:374)e light(cid:863) April 14th, 1216- the first stone of the cathedral was blessed by his grace.
