Document Summary

Empire- you have one power that is overwhelmingly powerful and can conquer their neighbors if they wished. Hegemony- another type of power, still overwhelmingly powerful just doesn"t really control any other than its mainland although it could if it wanted. No outside threats unless other countries band together. Balance of power- a specific type of system that had to be concisely designed and maintained to function properly. Minimum of 5,6,7, or 8 powers with none having differences that matter. Not about maintaining peace but keeping the status quo. Usually the powers tend to separate into two hostile alliances that their combined powers are compatible. Collective security- method of solving disputes without war. You need a world government made up of every state that are willing to gang up on aggressor if any war starts.
