Conceptually driven what we expect is based on past information (concepts or ideas in large chunks of information) Past experiences/knowledge related to a stimulus allows us to make inferences or predictions. Starts at higher level analyzes and reasoning and work our way down to details: example: treasure in the sand , michael goes to europe , new vocabulary is learned in context. Pattern recognition through the use of holistic context: fill in the missing pieces. Whole to part: category to subcategory, conversation down to phoneme, sight word recognition. Data driven starts with a stimulus. Individual stimuli are pieced together to form a whole: cactus, sand, hot, scorpion , missing/part of picture is put together to make whole. Part to whole: sound to word - break and fix or sound blending, word to sentence formulation, sounding out words for reading.
