Document Summary

First three classification (a,b,c) separated by how the organism/bacteria looks. Looked at one nonliving rock; looked at two living kingdoms. All have in common growth and metabolism- viruses do not have these features because they require a host to replicate. Protista: randoms don"t fit in plants or animals; neither plant nor animal. Algae, fungi, bacteria, yeast were included in haeckels protista. Stainer could see specific organelles with the electron microscope. Whittaker"s protista is a eukaryotic cell that is unicellular. Separated based on how they get nutrients (plantae, fungi, animalia) Archaea are actually closer to eukaryotes than bacteria rrna every living organism has a ribosome. Viruses do not have ribosomes, they are not living. Only similar 10% very far on the tree of life. Macro organisms: organisms we can see with the naked eye (include animal, fungi, plants) Simple stain/negative stain: the only thing you can see is their shape/morphology.
