The basic elements of music are 1)melody, 2)rhythm, 3)harmony, 4)texture, 5)timbre, and. Melody is a horizontally-organized single line of notes heard in a succession as a coherent unit. One could say that following this structure is what makes music appeal to the ear. Conjunct motion is smooth scale-wise motion, or the melodic motion of pitches by step. Rather than being smooth, disjunct motion is the melody motion of pitches by step. Scale is a series of notes that provide the essential pitch building blocks of a melody, aka, do re mi fa so la ti do. There are two different types of scales: major and minor. Music, as de ned by dr. marosi, is human-made, expressively organized song combinations. Pitch is the position of a sound on a range from very low to very high, determined by the frequency of its sound waves.
