PSY 2012 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Xander Harris, Stress Management, Zygote
Document Summary
Transactional model of development is a child"s nature is going to impact their nurture. Genotype (what one actually have genetically)- genes- chromosomes (23 pairs)- dna (deoxyribonucleic acid) Extent to which genetic & environmental differences among people are responsible for differences in their traits. Most common way to study this is through & adoption research: genes, shared vs. nonshared environmental influences. Identical twins: develop from a single zygote (fertilized egg) that splits in two, creating two genetic replicas, ex: xander from buffy the vampire slayer. Fraternal twins: develop from separate zygotes, genetically no closer than brothers/ sisters, but share fetal environment ex: Study of the evolution of behavior & the mind using principles of natural selection (darwin) Mutations: random errors in gene replication that lead to a change in the sequence of nucleotides; source of all genetic diversity. Men are more likely than women to: engage in hit and run sex, perceive a warm response as a come-on.
