Would conquer different villages and bring them into the cusco political and economic network. Based in andahualas (apurimac), west of cusco. In ad 1438 they were on the verge of attacking the inka. Viracocha retreated along urubamba with inka urqo; inka yupanqui stayed in cusco. Cusco held, severe defeat of the chankas. Inka yupanqui names himself king and takes the name pachacuti. Although he saved cusco his father didn"t want to make him king.
