Reported of a culinary war going on in france called kebab-a-phobia . Far right political parties on the rise in france, were using kebab as a symbol of what had gone wrong in their country. They visualized a france in which kebabs had replaced baguettes. It turns out that kebabs (after hamburgers and pizza) are the 3rd most popular fast food in. More than 300 million kebabs are eaten a year. The kebab has become a symbol of the muslim invasion in france. You are touching the most sensitive point of identity . The point is, eating is always a political act and it is always full of meaning. Food is not tied as centrally to national identity in us as it is in other parts of the world. Ethnic identity is certainly tied to food. Us food is the amalgamation of all different types of ethnic foods.
