Document Summary

The area in mexico was almost like a mediterranean because they were very interactive across the entire area. The maya area is called the maya lowlands. much of the central area is a tropical forest or jungle. We"re still mystified as to how the civilization emerged in this region because it is very difficult to excavate and set up. Nevertheless, we know that by 500 bce, a very vibrant and dynamic civilization is emerging in this dense tropical forest, probably thanks to a complex system of waterways. Many classic maya texts are written in ch"ol maya rather than tzeltal. When the classic maya collapse, there is a shift to the yucatec maya, which is more northeast. The migration of wastek is placed around 1300. Maya, or those who identify as so, are still the dominant population in many of these regions.
