Long history of racism/ white supremacy that has shaped the experiences of mexican-americans in the us. 51% increase, more immigration but mostly higher birth rates. So walked out to protest for reform in education. Mi raza primero speaks on why it was powerful and why the changes didn"t go far enough, and how we still have not sent as many students to college as we should be. Legal citizenship but bc of racism are socially not given resources and access to privileges of citizens. Legal citizenship made many want to claim whiteness, reach whiteness to have access to whiteness, reach whiteness to have access to same privileges that come with being white, but that has put a set back to revolutionizing. Long history of resistance, but not unified due to: Difficult for ppl to see themselves as one whole bc of regional differences.
