Business unionism: service, exclusion, democratic party, nationalism vs. Social justice unionism: organizing, inclusion, worker political power, internationalism. Last week discussed delano grape strike and boycott challenged consumers to not buy grapes make the bigger powers feel it in their pocketbooks. Memphis sanitation worker strike both involved workerset hat were seen and treated as less than/inferior (this is what they deserve mentality) this structure was similar in both regions. Justice for janitors nad hotel workers none of these were mainstream different from other protests/unions the ones we look at embrace broader vision for labor (social justice unionism) relationship between workers and society at large. These four models are the minority the majority of industries embrace business unionism (like sales) role of union leader is to handle grievances. Habit, employees are used to a certain model. Organizing and educating members takes time (us labor movement grew from the organizing model, from the great depression)
